Type of memorial
This is a brass plate, a roll of honour, which is currently highly polished hence the quality of the photograph! The measurement of the memorial is 700mm high x 380mm wide. It is very good condition, having originally been hung on the wall of the Orwell Street swimming pool, Orwell Street, Grimsby. This pool was originally a privately owned swimming pool, by the Fisherlads Institute, and was situated on Orwell Street, closed to the docks in Grimsby. The pool was given to the Grimsby Corporation on April 6, 1923, but was closed in the 1960’s. The roll of honour was found in someone’s shed and handed to the Town Hall only quite recently.
Condition of memorial and current ownership
The Trustees of the Grimsby Borough Council own the memorial, and it will be maintained by them, using funds allocated them by the North East Lincolnshire Council as requested by the Civics Manager. It is polished frequently by the Town hall cleaning staff!
