Situated down the side of the Town Hall in what used to be the Town Police Cells

REFRESHMENTS

There are no facilities in the Archives There are toilet and washroom facilities, with wheelchair access there are a number of cafes in the town centre - including several in the Freshney Place shopping centre - There is also a café on the top floor of the library - diagonally opposite in Town Hall Square - where you can have a very reasonable lunch.

Cleethorpes Library

 Has many of the Trade directories on their open shelves so if you just want to check someone's address it probably quicker to go to Cleethorpes

The Church of the Latter Day Saints 

Family History Centre 

This is situated at Lynwood Avenue, Scartho. It is best to book before you turn up as it is well patronised.

They have a computer which you can access the l.G I. from and save what you find to disk, you need to buy a fresh disk every time you go or you can keep it there until you have finished, this is to stop the spread of viruses. They have also four microfiche readers, and a printout service. (From fiche and computer). These fascilities may have improved upon since last visiting.

They have a complete set of the 1881 census for England and Scotland The latest I.G.1. with addendum for 1995

You can also order many other things for all over the country for a modest fee.

It will also help if you can tell them when you book if it is the computer you need to use or the fiche readers.

bulletLincolnshire Family History Society has indexed and published all known Church of England marriages from 1600-1837 when civil registration began.

Lincolnshire  Archives

They hold copies of all church and chapel records deposited including christenings marriages and burials.

Probate Records and Wills

Indexes settlements, removal orders and bastardy bonds

Saint Catherine's Index to births, marriages and deaths 1837 to 1983

Many other archival sources of the ancient county of Lincolnshire. Photocopies can be made for a fee. If you know what you want to look at it is best to tell them before you arrive. You need to book your Saint Catherine's Index reader separately to your other microfiche reader, as you are only allowed 2 hours on the St. Caths index, so make sure you tell them when you book what you need.. It is rather complicated but you will soon become an old hand.

Lincoln Central Library not far from the Archives has just been refurbished and boasts a local study library with the

bulletIllustrations prints, engravings, slides, photographs and postcards of Lincolnshire. A computerized illustrated index in progress.

bulletRoss Collection on early Lincolnshire history
bulletBanks Collection of drawings and papers

bulletWheeler Collection on fen drainage (at Boston)

Production of suitable identification may be required to consult original material

If your ancestors came from around Louth they to have a separate local studies library which includes the already stated Goulding collection.
